From her family's Napa Auto Parts store in downtown Delaware to Ohio’s Statehouse chambers, Wezlynn Davis has always known how to turn ideas into action.

In a recent episode of the podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Wezlynn—Jerome Township Trustee and now candidate for State Representative of Ohio’s 86th House District. What emerged was not just a political pitch, but a candid conversation rooted in community, resilience, and a refreshing clarity about what public service should look like.

Rooted in Experience, Driven by Service

Wezlynn’s backstory is filled with life-defining moments: losing her father at a young age, being raised in a working-class household, helping in her grandparents’ auto store, and launching her own business straight out of trade school. These experiences weren’t just character-building—they laid the foundation for a public servant who deeply understands the value of hard work, tight budgets, and doing more with less.

“People don’t just want a representative in Columbus. They want someone who’s still showing up at the doors and knows what it means to live here.”

Policy Advocate Before She Was a Politician

Long before filing her candidacy, Wezlynn was already in the halls of the Statehouse, advocating on behalf of trade schools and small businesses. She has a 100% track record in stopping legislation that hurt small enterprises—sometimes as a one-woman army facing down corporate lobbying giants.

Now, she's bringing that same tenacity to her campaign, aiming to tackle issues like:

  • Property tax reform without defunding public safety

  • Workforce development that includes viable, non-college career paths

  • Eliminating income tax to return economic power to Ohioans

  • Empowering local governments and pushing back against unfunded mandates and corporate handouts

Gridlock? She Calls It a Challenge Worth Solving

Wezlynn doesn’t pretend the political landscape is easy—but she embraces the challenge. With a persuasive approach grounded in respect, research, and relentless advocacy, she’s focused on building coalitions, not just casting votes.

“We don’t rally in the streets—we take our seat at the table.”

And that’s exactly what she’s done. Whether it’s pushing back against unnecessary tax abatements or changing comprehensive land plans at the local level, Wezlynn has walked the talk on how leadership works best: transparently, locally, and in service of the people.

Her Message to Voters? Integrity Over Influence

Wezlynn wraps up our conversation with a heartfelt message to residents across Union and Marion counties: “I’ve never wavered on serving those who elected me—and I won’t start now.” With endorsements from Ohio leaders like Treasurer Robert Sprague and Senator George Lang, she’s gaining momentum, but insists that it’s her community, not political

power, that she serves.
